L:. Pours a dark brown black with a small tan head and no lacing on the glass.

S:. Sweet milk chocolate, a mineral note and notes of sesame oil, not the strongest aroma.

T:. Sweet milk chocolate, roasted malt, a mineral note and some sesame oil. Ok but I've had better.

F:. Smooth lower carbonation.

not a style that gets a whole lot of love from the new wave brewers, so this is cool to see. a lot lighter in color than i expected for the style and the name, looks like a brown ale, not much darker, yet surprisingly the roast aspect is right there with the chocolate malt in the nose and the taste. i definitely get plenty of that, its not hurting for darker malt depth, thats for sure. in the nose i get some coffee for sure, although im not sure there is actually coffee in this. the lager yeast profile of the brewery is in here too in the smell. the beer tastes clean, very straightforward compared to some of their multi yeast exprimental brews, this feels closer to tradition. i taste a lot less coffee than a smell, maybe a hint of it from the grain in the finish, but thats really all. very dry, very light bodied, infinitely drinkable for a beer this dark in color. it could stand a little more carbonation and maybe even a little more body, it feels just a little thin, even for what it is. overall though this is a really cool beer that i am glad to have back on tap down at the brewery. if you have not yet been here, put it on the top of your list!

 

A honey milk shwarzbier.

Pours black with a huge mocha head. Aroma is sharp and dry roastiness that gives off some great coffee grind and a touch of chocolate, some sweet cream from the lactose sugars, and a bit grainy. I can smell the honey but only because I am looking for it, kinda blends in with the sugars. Flavor is great, loving the addition of the lactose sugars into this; deep dry roastiness that evolves throughout the sip and well into the aftertaste, lots of coffee grind andwith some chocolate underneath,sweet cream from the sugars, and grainy. The honey shows itself more as it warms. A heavy, medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, Saint Patricks nailed this one.
