Carrefour “Saer Brau Negra”
33 cl can coded “Consumir preferentemente antes del fin de 12/24 L3255 00:52”. Sampled on 20 November 2023
€0,55 @ Carrefour, C. Tudescos 1, Madrid,ES
Look: A clear, very dark brown body appears black in the full glass and displays limited ruby and orange highlights when held to the light. The head is a short cap of creamy tan foam. Average head retention and lacing.
Smell: The aroma suggests brown sugar and dark cocoa powder.
Taste: There’s more brown sugar than cocoa powder to the taste, and it’s sweet but not cloying. There’s very little hop flavor to it despite the use of both hop extract and actual hops. What is there gives it a little bit of extra character that keeps it from being just brown sugar water. There’s some bitterness to it, not much but enough to balance it, and it finishes semi-dry and bready.
Feel: Medium bodied, gently crisp, and smooth.
Overall: This is one of the better of the price-point Saer Brau beers but it’s still on the sweeter side and lacking in depth of character in comparison to most dark lagers.
