I am so thankful to have supporters of The CANQuest (tm) like my people in Altoona! They inquired of me as to whether I had gotten any of Riepstine's Pub's CANned beers & when I replied that I had recently reviewed the IPA, they sent me some of the others, including this one. That's pretty cool! Also, many thanks to this site for an almost-immediate approval of the pic.

From the CAN: "'Where It's All About The Beer!'"

The CANQuest (tm) is really shifting gears now! If you look at my reviews, I have gone from APAs to AIPAs to DIPAs and now I am getting ready to segue into a bunch of beers from the same brewer (a horizontal), but I need to lead up to it first.

The Crack! opened onto yet another brimful craft CAN and I could not CANtain my excitement. An inverted Glug and my glass began rapidly filling with a CANbination of liquid & foam to the point that I felt CANpelled to back off. Settling, I was left with two fingers of foamy, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was a cloudy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose smelled of sea salt and I am speaking from experience. I put in 15.25 years in the US Navy before taking early retirement and 9.5 of that was aboard four different ships. Sea spray/sea salt has an unmistakable scent that is completely unlike common iodized table salt. Standing in the bow, getting the spray in your face, in your nostrils & in your sinuses is a smell that will always linger. The coriander gave it a flowery, black pepper bite. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, much bigger in the mouth than I anticipated. The taste was salty, as advertised. Hoo boy, was it salty! Ever been swimming in the ocean and gotten a mouthful of water? That's what this was like. It was saturated with sea salt. I wonder if the Germans brew it with this much salt. It was like gargling with salt water. Finish was dry (duh!), salty and immensely refreshing. The low ABV makes it a definite CANdidate for the summer cooler and CANbined with its thirst-quenching nature, it would be great during the summer. The only CANcern would be the taste. I do not mind salt, but it may not be for everyone.

Poured into a standard pint glass: color is gold, head is brighter white but dissipates quickly to a feint ring.

Smell is near brine with some fresh cracked coriander and a touch of biscuit - gose all the way.

Taste is a little tart, then saltiness overtakes this brew - one of the few goses' I've had where you can actually taste the salt, which i think is the intention of the brew. Coriander is pleasant and near freshness.

Mouthfeel is crisp, sharp, tart and extremely full - again what I envision when thinking of a salty beer with sourness.

Overall - a gose that seems to push near what I have read about actual gose style but still a bit too much sourness, but the salt level is way more noticeable than most other examples. The mouthfeel seems to be where the style is in my head tart and strong saltiness.
