I had this on tap at the brewpub enjoyed chilled and allowed to gradually warm for several minutes.
The color is dark brown like tobacco or coffee with translucent clarity thick sandstone head with fine bead, retention is excellent. The smell is very enticing with lots of caramel and what I am guessing is melanoidin which toffee-notes and slight hint of toast with some light dried fruit aromas. The feel is excellent tons of malt without being to heavy or cloying even though it is on the sweet side. A perferct amount of carbonation and very low alcohol influence on the palate with semi-dry finish.
The taste is top-notch with moderately full bready and rich caramel flavors up front with some gentle spice from the hops with a nice dried fruit taste in the yeast department. The toffee-like flavor from the malt is rich yet not overpowering with mild toasted flavors with a slight raisin element in the finish. Overall I loved this -perhaps the best American Interpretation of the style I have has-very easy to drink and you hardly taste any alcohol which is impressive for the 8%.
