Pours a pitch black coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smell is a little subdued, but with some roasted malt and citrus fruit notes coming through. Taste is a good balance of roasted malt and lightly resinous citrus hops, with notes of licorice, grapefruit and pine. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some licorice and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This is a really well-balanced Black IPA that just lacks a bit of oomph to be truly great, but is still enjoyable enough, even though it lacks a certain intensity.
