We were extremely lucky to have our friend Gerd Schoenberger form Braurei Eck in Germany to brew a special one time beer. This traditional Hefe-Weisse is brewed with German Pilsner and Wheat malts. The addition of orange, lemon and grapefruit peel adds to the character of this delicate beer. Only made once, so when it is gone, it is gone!

this beer was a huge let down for me, originally described to me by the bartender there as a berliner, definitely not, this is a hefeweizen with citra hops, which sounds promising still, but the beer in the glass is pretty rough. its super thick and milky, flat looking too, dense beyond even the richest of hefe types that are out there, loaded with sediment, almost seems like the bottom of the keg or something in my glass. it smells alright, citra hops for sure, sweet and lemony, which actually works well with the hefe yeast in this, at least in the aroma. tons of raw wheat in here, tannic and huge, lacking any kind of refinement at all, and it hurts the flavor and the feel. its heavy beer, especially without much carbonation, and the citra hops are lost in this porridge of grain. the light fruitiness in the yeast is all but sealed over too. this seems sloppy to me, and as good as some of the beers here were, this was on the very edge of undrinkable. this has me inspired though to find or make a hoppy hefe, the idea is great, but this execution is weak...

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
