another good and simple true to style beer from these guys. they really have that dialed right now. this is a good one, higher in oats i have to imagine than many of its peers. its big and creamy, silky smooth, palate coating and drinkable forever with a great oaty sweetness in the end. really fantastic example of the style. looks nice even in a shaker pint, ring lacing and creamy head til the end. it smells like english ale yeast, although its hard to tell exactly what they used through the dark malts, which are boldly assertive but also not over the top, and definitely not too bitter. almost has the finish of a dry irish stout, but a slightly different yeast flavor to it. the mouthfeel is awesome, beefed up by the oats but still really drinkable for the style. i appreciate the lower abv here too. none of the dried fruits and berries we sometimes get in the middle of these, no caramel malt center, no sharp bitterness on the finish, no crazy hops, just a straight up oatmeal stout with just a little bit of lactose in there to round it out. very very well made beer, delicious from the tap.

This is also a tweaked beer from a previous release, and I thought it came out very nicely. They used a slightly different malt and as a result this isn't as dry as a lot of oatmeal stouts. It's very smooth and drinkable, and not as heavy as some stouts turn out to be. Very good beer for someone who doesn't like super-dry stouts.
