July 28th, 2015 - The Jinja Juice is a botanical cacophony. A cross between an amber and pomegranate colored beer, it has a huge nose filled with ginger and soap notes, which is both strong and not entirely appetizing. The tongue reveals some sourness, and an extra dose of ginger, dosed with kiwi. Tropical and refreshing, it’s a weird beer and fun for a few sips.

Tried on tap on location and took home a small growler. Review is from growler. Slightly hazy dark amber brown. A little on the acetic acid side but it actually works with the ginger. Like drinking a dark beer with sushi ginger. The ginger really shines and it could be great with some spicy general tso!

Look: Medium/dark brown, turbid, with a light, small bubble, white foam.
Smell: Malty Ginger. Sweet and nutty, as expected for a brown ale base, coupled with the unique ginger aroma.
Taste: Strong ginger, very tart, and effervescent. I just started seeing these sour ginger added beers on the west coast. It is an amazing combination since ginger is one of the few flavors that really holds its own against the sour beer. Even balance between ginger and sour.
Feel: Medium body/bready, acerbic, tingles the back and roof of the mouth.
Overall: Came across this brewery during a recent trip to the Russian River Valley. This isn't a ginger beer, it is a barrel aged brown ale with ginger added. As a huge fan of sours, this is one of my favorite beers of 2015. Very refreshing and expands on what can be achieved in this category.
