2016 vintage, collaboration with jester king, a low alcohol spontaneously fermented berliner base type done with grapefruit, just amazing stuff, especially at this low abv and this age, am so stoked i picked the bottle up at the brewery all those years ago and kept it around for an epic jester king tasting. this is close to clear, radiant light yellow colored, high shine, and high carbonation keeping a short white head well stocked with big bubbles. the aroma is awesome, its almost salty up front, highlights the acidity of the grapefruit nicely, the malt is impossibly light, and the funk is maxed out without the beer being super sour, i was worried about the age on this, like it might go overly bacterial, but it did not, more bretty wildness than acid by a longshot. the flavor is killer too, the grapefruit is juicy and fresh and real and brings some pucker and bitterness through the back half, love how bright and fresh it still seems. there is a definite white wine vibe to this, but its not more tart than that, and there is some almost lambic character in the ferment here, crazy how complex it is for also being so light and drinkable. awesome minerality, carbonation, crisping finish, and overall refinement. a bit of a shocker really, not sure what my expectations were, but this ended up being a collective favorite from an epic day of drinking jester king bottles. world class, amazing expression of the fruit, super cool yeast profile, just phenomenal overall!
