fashioned more as a saison than anything else i think, this is relatively easy drinking beer, hence the summer ale moniker, but its also not all that interesting as they go, and lacks the nuanced yeast and malt layers i love in the better examples of the style. its somewhat simple, only lightly wheaty, and with a fruity belgian element to the yeast nose and taste more than really any farmy or rustic elements, and its all very clean by the finish. a little haze to it, nice carbonation, head, and lacing, and a light but not watery body, it sort of checks all the boxes on the list, and it tastes pretty good, but its relatively uninspiring as they go, and could have come from just about any mostly competent brewery in the country, which is not to say its not good, this is a great crushing pint of beer in warm weather, but its just generic and simple to the point of being easily lost in the crowd. mid hop bitterness and biscuity notes round it out, a rush of carbonation, a pear flavor for a flash, and its gone, dry and refreshing. better than most of the beers i had from these guys when i visited last year...
