With an enticing French roast coffee aroma, rich and nutty 70% cacao chocolate bar comes to mind when sipping this smooth black lager. Midnight Silk isn’t flashy, but isn’t understated either. This is a beer drinker’s beer meant for long drinking sessions filled with good conversation or quiet contemplation.

Very dark, near black brew with abundant beige foam in the Bacchus tumbler. Interesting aroma of grapes and scorched grain. Overall this is sweet and charred tasting. Substantial body and quite malty, but all dark. Even the caramel taste is burnt, but then there is some flavor of dark grapes. Tastes like an imperial stout cut with cheap wine. Aftertaste is quite bitter, and not like chocolate. This is so thick in the mouth. From the 16 oz can purchased at O’Shea Brewing.

Picked up a single pint can. No date on can. This can says 5% ABV, FWIW.
Pours an almost opaque black in color with a lovely, creamy finger thick tan head on top with better than average retention, though it does eventually dissipate to a thin layer of lacing on top, some of which clings to the glass as you drink. Carbonation is hard to see, but it looks smooth with small bubbles appearing when you swish it around. This looks tasty.
Aroma is roasty and sweet with cacao, coffee, brown sugar, some nutty earthiness and some hoppiness to round it out. I like where this is going.
Taste follows the aroma very well. In addition to the notes mentioned in the aroma, some dark fruitiness comes through. The hoppiness is pretty light but cuts through the sweetness, providing a nice bittering finish.
This is medium bodied with a hint of chewiness and very subtle zest on the swallow with a hint of mineral water. It drinks very smooth and clean and finishes dry. Very drinkable, and quite reminiscent of beers of this style from Germany.
This is the first brew I've had from this brewing company and it's very solid! Quite flavorful while remaining light and drinkable. I'm a fan. I'm looking forward to trying out more from this brewery. Prost!

16oz can from Tavour. Near black pour, tan foamy head fades fast. Light roasty aroma, coffee-ish. Taste is roasty and mildly bitter, hint of chocolate, with some dryness at the finish.

Canned 06 Jan, purchased at ABV.
Jet black with a dark brown head with good retention and little lacing, this looks solid. The nose is quite aggressive for a Schwarzbier. Plenty of roast, some coffee, some chicory, some bitter dark chocolate,a definite hop note with a blend of earth, mint and an undercurrent of pine. A little burnt caramel is present too. The palate opens potently roasty with bitter earth, coffee, dark chocolate and burnt sugar. This is followed by a moderate hop flavor as well with earth and pine present. The mid palate has more roast, though the palate is just a little unbalanced - there's insufficient heft to counter the stronger bitter flavors or to complement the low carbonation, resulting in a mouthfeel that's a little thin and occasionally watery. Bitter on the finish with a wisp of green grapes drizzled with burnt caramel. Mildly oily too. Nice, though this isn't a traditional schwarz.
