Collaboration with Cellarmaker, Sante Adairius, Alvarado Street Brewing and Freestyle Farms

This is a four-way collaboration with Cellarmaker, Sante Adairius, Alvarado Street Brewing and Freestyle Farms. It's a double IPA that features EIGHT, hand selected lots of Nelson Sauvin hops from Freestyle Farms and hits all the Nelson marks; passionfruit, lychee, gooseberry and all the punchy, lush aromatics with a hint of dank petroleum. Concept/artwork inspired by an epic trip we had together in New Zealand back in early April, and in tribute to the almighty Nelson Sauvin hop.

12/20/22 Batch! Sweet tropical hoppy, slightly malty, white wine grape, and a mouthwatering Nelson-dank nose on this one! Great aromatics! Taste follows with a tropical hoppy, slightly malty, and grapefruit citrus bitter finish. This is murky-soft and feels great on the palate. As it warms, the fantastic finish starts to become just a little short. I mean, the hop expression is fantastic here but, I just wish that it lingered a little bit more...just needed a little more hoppy-dankness on the backend IMO. This is my first time having this and I am impressed! Outstanding!

Advertised as Alvarado Nelson Slayer. I had no idea it was a four-way colab beer.
This was excellent! Pours a turbid thick orange gold. Lychee, guava, some of that white grape character that I love and can’t stand in equal measure.

L: Pours a uniform vibrant golden yellow in color with complete opacity. A seemingly patient and slow pour yielded 3 fingers of a bubbly white cap that settled into a nice fingers width cap that retained quite nicely. Lacing is on the upper end of moderate, veiling the glass. As a package, it looks great.
S: That nelson dankness is there, making me yearn for what has become my favorite hop in NEIPAs. Apart from the nelson, there is an underlying sweet element to the beer, alongside a concoction of fruits such as orange, mango, pineapple, papaya and peach.
T: I am on the fence of giving this beer a 3.75 or a 4, but the more I drank it, I found it to be more deserving of a 3.75. Here's the thing- while the nelson flavor is there, it isn't as nelson-y (if that makes sense) as I would hope. It is dank, but the fruit sweetness overpowers the nelson hop profile. Big flavors of pineapple, mango, peach, bubble gum and citrus, with hints of banana and lemongrass at the finish. After taste is a combo of sweet and vegetal, with lingering flavors of orange, onion, apricot and grass.
F: Great feel. Medium body, light to medium in weight. Carbonation is spot-on where it should be, elevating the beer enough to make it smooth with a clean-ish finish but not being overly carbonated. Booze is masked decently for the most part but isn't totally concealed.
O: In the end, I very much enjoyed the beer, and I think it is well deserving of a 4 overall. Though it is far from the nelson perfection I know ASB is capable of, it's still a win. Plus, brownie points for the can art and name. Anyways, I am very glad to try. Cheers!

ASB keeps doing everything right with this terrific collab. brew. Dank, pungent, aromatic hops notes and full-on Nelson flavors. Feel is smooth, maybe just slightly lower in body than expected. Overall outstanding, another home run from ASB.

Missed out on cans, draught pour at Cellarmaker. Great nose, bit of green hop notes. Will be great in a couple weeks. Think I still prefer Nelson Baby!, but would've been nice to do blind head-head in a few weeks if I'd scored cans.
