While clearly labeling itself as unfiltered like every good hefeweizen will do/really be like that, this one actually looks pretty clean and from the appearance, even possibly filtered. Poured into a 1974 Marquette pint glass (the first of 3 Final Fours). 1/2" white head. I dunno how to score this appearance wise, it looks good, just not as expected.

The aroma clearly hits the heavy wheat note, light spice rack, low banana yeast. They call it green banana, and I guess the slightly non traditional down under hop aspect of this fits neatly into a 'green' banana descriptor. I'll allow it.

Taste is where it all pays off, this hits my hefe desires, hefty wheat quotient, amazing smooth mouth feel, low yeasty banana and spice rack notes, actually contributory non traditional hopping with Rakau and Riwaka (not sure?) actually plays out better in the execution than on paper.

Definitely a very good hefe to me, really dig that creamy mouth feel come summertime, good spot in the cooler, something light, 3x hoppy (pale/ipa/dipa), something light sour (berliner/gose) and something like this make for a good day on the water.

If you were given a blind tasting of this you would say "Gaaaagh! sour dishwater." Then you would notice some slightly familiar scent of German yeast. But then the bitter aftertaste takes over. No hint of the classic malty sweetness.

It doesn't seem to be spoiled, but it's got the hints of plastic. Quite earthy, dirty, and pencil-shavings tasting. The nose of spice is endless and aggravating.

Other wise it has a lovely long-lasting head, plenty of spritz on the tongue, and a lush mouthfeel. Just don't make me swallow more than a few sips, thank you. From the 16 oz can purchased at City Beer. Dated 11/23/20 on the bottom.
