Many a person will think ‘Hazy IPA’ when they hear Great Notion, so that’s why we brewed a West Coast IPA with them. Psyche! Beach Trip gets a little fuzzy with a new hop from New Zealand Hops called Superdelic that has the classic New Zealand soft fruitiness but with its own terpene twang. Add to that some dank HBC 586 and sticky Strata and you’ve got yourself one dope IPA.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours golden yellow with a frothy cream white head that settles to a light layer and leaves a bit of spotty lacing.
S: Herbal, earthy grassy piney notes, citrus zest, red berries, a little tropical and stone fruit, faint bubble gum, and bready slightly biscuity malt.
T: Herbal earthy slightly dank notes, pine, bubble gum, tropical and stone fruit, lychee, raspberry, papaya, mango, apricot, peach, strawberry, under ripe pineapple, and a hint of melon, citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and a hint of lime, a bit grassy, bready malt, and a fairly dry finish.
M: Just a touch on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation. Dryness manages to make it feel reasonably crisp.
O: I was excited to see what Cellarmaker and Great Notion could cook up, not to mention what Superdelic hops were all about. I'll admit, my can isn't the freshest, but from what's still there I don't think things came together quite as they were hoping. It seems like the earthy sulphur-y notes from the HBC 586 combined with the herbal dank notes of the Strata and put up a big green curtain. There are some really nice fruity notes hidden behind it, but said curtains are only drawn back so much so they don't really get a great chance to shine. I think swapping out the HBC 586 for something like Enigma would clean things right up. On the positive side, it was nice to get introduced to a new hop. I'll definitely keep my eyes open for more beers using Superdelic moving forward.

Can from Function
A clear light orange with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is great. Modern, pungent tropical fruit , an undercurrent of pine with some grapefruit, mildly floral and melony. Lovely. The palate opens bitter, pungent, clean as a whistle with tropical fruit, pineapple, peach, melon, papaya along with plenty of citrus. There's bitter orange, grapefruit, mild honeydew. Drying, clean finish with lingering oils and bitterness. Banger.
