It’s not that we have anything against red ales, they’re just not what we typically reach for. So when our buddy Matt at Fast Fashion said he’d love to brew one we saw our opportunity to create the style that perfectly marries rich caramel malts and piney, citrusy Cascade, Simcoe and Anchovy hops (yes that’s a real hop!). So for all you red ale drinking Old Heads out there, enjoy Old Head Red!

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours red-orange copper amber with a frothy tan head that settles to a firm layer and laces quite nicely.
S: Toasty bready malt, a touch of roast, grapefruit, spicy pine, underlying red fruity notes, and toffee sweetness.
T: Toasty, slightly roasty, spicy pine, grapefruit zest, underlying fruity notes, red berry, watermelon, and passion fruit, and some toffee sweetness.
M: A little on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation.
O: I'm in the same boat as the CM guys, red ales don't usually get me all that excited, but I'm digging this one. Nice balance and depth, the fruity notes from the Anchovy hops pair perfectly with the resinous pine and citrus of the Simcoe and Cascade. There's enough hop bitterness and flavor to counter all the malt. Would be make a great summer campfire beer.
