As we did with Batch 1000, Batch 2000 is celebrated by the brewing of a barleywine designed with all the knowledge and wisdom gained over one thousand brews. Batch 2000 was transferred into Weller Reserve and Blanton’s Bourbon barrels for 10 months. We then further rested it in a mix of Savage and Cooke Burning Chair Bourbon and Lip Service Rye barrels for an additional 13 months. After the oak and spirit character had increased significantly we blended our favorite 4 barrels to create this monstrous showcase of what time and wood can do to Barleywine.
We have meditated on the aroma and the descriptions are endless: blueberry cake donuts, scorched marshmallow, milk chocolate, toasted coconut, shredded tobacco, brown sugar and diner booth leather. The flavor follows closely with cinnamon pecan roll, mounds bar, peanut brittle, warming bourbon and hard cherry candy.

Look - A very dark brown-mostly black color. Head quickly disappears.
Smell - A nicely sweet bourbon scent, with sponge cake? (the best I can do to describe the sweetness), and light vanilla. Wonderful!
Taste - An excellent bourbon flavor, and even more sponge cake-like goodness. Delightful!
Feel - At 17.7%ABV, the bourbon is somewhat pronounced, but this is one of those rare instances where the bourbon is SUPER tasty and easy drinking, and it's ok for it to be pronounced. :-)
Overall - Another outstanding barleywine from Cellarmaker. At this point, I'm convinced they make the best barleywines in the world.

375 mL waxed tip bottle into a snifter
Dark brown ale, nearly black. A wispy head quickly dissipates.
Boozy, oaky bouquet. Notes of burnt sugar and butterscotch. Some pit fruit and bananas round the nose.
More straight-up bourbony on the palate, super oaky. Toffee and earthy sweetness lead to a long, lingering and hot finish.
At first I thought it wS a bit hot for the ABV, but wrapped my palate around it as I sipped through the bottle.

Sweet toffee and caramel malty, dark fruity figs and raisins, a hint of butterscotch, a touch of vanilla, a hint of hoppiness, and a pronounced bourbon barrel boozy nose on this one! Taste follows closely with a medium-bodied yet soft, hint of a hoppy bitter and barrel boozy finish. This is definitely not as good as DB1000 IMO...and, even though the description said DB1000 is an American Barleywine, DB1000 tasted way more like an English BW. With this one, as it warmed, I definitely noticed the hoppy bitter finish which clashes with all those sweet malty vibes on the backend. I'm glad I have one more bottle to see how this develops with time...meaning I hope the hoppy bitter bite dissipates, the barrel gets a little more settled in, and the caramel malty vibes peek out more.
