Nabbed this at Table and Vine in West Springfield, MA. Brief impressions below:

Soft suggestions of dark fruit, obvious notes of specialty chocolate malt, and a dominant dark malt sweetness. Bourbon barrel aged? Okay, but what did it spend in that barrel - 2 days? This is a competent American porter, but make no mistake - there's no real bourbon character to it at all. Its scant 6.20% ABV isn't hidden at all.

Mouthfeel is smooth, wet, and medium-bodied (though a bit thin). Well-carbonated, with a nice softness to it.

Drinkable fare, but it won't dazzle. Not a beer I'd buy again, misleading marketing aside.

A- Black bodied with some brown at the very edges. Pint glass allows a two finger head to form with good retention. Massive smooth sheets of lacing.

S- A big fudgey brownie with a touch of some smoothed out Bourbon syrup. Dutch cocoa powder, slight wet oak, dark fruit hints, coffee and caramel.

T- The chocolate notes are once again the main aspect of the brew with cocoa powder and darker bitter chocolate coming to mind. The brownie idea certainly carries over. Bourbon at a medium level but very smoothed out and not boozy at all with slight oak tones. Some spiced raisin hints later on detract from the balance.

MF- Maybe the only real flaw here as the body is rather thin and extra carbonation makes it very fluffy. Not much support for the rich flavors.

Quite good but the mouthfeel is leaves something to be desired with a moderately strong barrel influence.

BERKSHIRE BBA MOUNT GREYLOCK PORTER 12/29/15

A new brew, apparently the first BBA brew Berkshire has done in some time.

a: Very dark clear ruby, inch thick tan head receded slowly to thick surface foam and dense lacing. Very impressive for a porter!

s: Definite whiskey notes

t: Bourbon up front over a light base of dark malt. Boozy finish.

m: On the lighter side of medium, ok body and carbonation tingle.

o: An excellent choice if you like your BBA brews dominated by bourbon flavor. The porter is light enough that it never competes with the prominence of the barrel aged notes. Those who don't like that may also quibble that the body is a bit light, but remember that the base beer is a porter, not a stout. plus that makes it easier drinking.

UPDATE 3/13/17: Another bottle opened and the review reviewed a little over a year later. Not that it seems to matter now that this is listed on BA as "retired," except to me for the sake of accuracy, and because the two other reviews after mine were much less positive with a few very different impressions. I must agree that it is not much of a porter. with body at least bordering on watery, and no smoke, coffee nor chocolate flavor to speak of. But damn the whiskey flavor is strong and tasty, and despite the light body the persistent foam, lacing and aroma are exceptional! For my money a worthy BBA brew somewhat comparable to Alltech's, Lowering my ratings somewhat though from 4.5 to 4.25 for taste and 4.5 to 4.25 for overall, and feel from 4 to 3.25.
