Drank on-tap at Charlies Kitchen, Cambridge, MA
Served in a plastic cup
According to the sign out front, this is a new beer made by Berkshire Brewing exclusively for Charlies Kitchen in Harvard Square.
Dark, translucent, copper-mahogany in appearance. The creamy, tight, one-finger head lasted the entire drink. Talk about fantastic retention. A thick latticework of lacing coated the entire cup.
The nose was very weak, even as the beer warmed. Slightly sweet malt notes were detectible along with a touch of vanilla.
Just like the nose, the taste was rather unimpressive. Very mild initially. As the beer warmed, subtle malt notes were noticeable up front along with some nuttiness. A touch of earthy hops came through on the finish.
The beer was medium bodied with a larger bubbled carbonation. Fairly average for the style.
Drinkability was probably this beer's strong point. This non-offensive brown ale was quite sessionable.
Berkshire Brewing typically puts out terrific beers but this is definitely one of their weakest efforts to date.
