Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance -The beer pours a lightly hazed golden-orange color with a one finger head of dense white foam. The head has a great level of retention, hanging on for quite some time before fading to leave a ton of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strong of a bready smell mixed with notes of earthy and herbal hops. Along with these smells comes a bit of grain and caramel and a touch of pine.
Taste – The taste begins with the bready and cereal and wheat grain flavor that was in the nose mixed with a moderate showing of herbal and pine hops. There is a light caramel and pear sweetness upfront that fades a bit as the taste advances on the tongue. All the while the hop gets more intense, with an increase in the herbal notes and some presence of a earthiness. There is a smooth white bread flavor that joins in at the end, and with a touch of hay, one is left with a somewhat more dank and malty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is a bit more chewy with a carbonation level that is moderate, both making for a rather easy sipper.
Overall – A nice old school non-citrus laden IPL. Would do this one again.
