L- Rested for a few weeks and poured gently but a huge amount of sediment was in the pour. Whole strata of it wafting up and down inside the glass. Dark brown, completely opaque though the glass, and pours with fast clearing head.
S- A kind of deep toasty demerera sugar aroma.
T- It has brightness on the front, the finish is more broadly rich, rather sweet, molasses sugar.
F- One for winter. It's rich, quite deep but the sugar is over-prominant to me.
O- I'll hesitate before buying a Belgian Brune again. They often seem to have over-prominent sweet/sugar notes, indeed like this one they're made with sugar (as well as malts).
The list of ingredients includes 'barley malt, sugar and spices'.

Hazy brownish color with tan head. Aroma has sweet malt and some sweetened coffee notes with brown sugar. Taste follows with sweet malt and brown sugar, some generic dark fruits, light roasty bitterness on the finish. Body is on the lighter side and has a high effervescence. Not bad but quite generic overall.

Brown color, monk's habit. Beige head, not too much.
Malty smell, tending to something balsamic. Notes of anise, and berry fruit. Not exciting, but interesting.
Decente taste, alcohol hidden. Touches of chocolate, under the berry fruit. Notes of light roasted, dark candy sugar. Powder cocoa, light.
Nothing exceptional, but after all, decent beer, drinkable, it left a good taste.
Average body.

BB march 2006. Good appearance with dark brown to black beer, and a yellow head that lasts well. Nose is sweet, flowery and perfumed. Honey obviousas is a roastnote and caramel from malts and probably candy. Taste is also very flowery, sweet, carramellic and dry roastbite ake taste good but IMO too sweet. Bitterness and roast form aftertaste but sweetness is there long. Mouthfeel good with good car4bonisation but could be less sweet and have litle more hops. Easy drinkable and enjoyable brew though.

75 cl cork and capped bottle. Pours a deep ruby color with lots of flaky chunks with a beige head leaving decent lacing as the head subsides. Fairly complex nose, plummy and fig-like fruit esters, a slight bit of cardboard mixed with the bready, dark malts. Cocoa seems to shine through as one of the predominant malt tastes, some fruity esters come into play and a faint tartness in the finish keeps the drinker interested. Alcohol level is kept in check. A fairly unique experience from a brewery I did not know even existed. I'm not sure where my buddy picked it up at, but I'm glad he shared it with me. Only gripe was the excess flaky sediment. If I were to get a bottle in the future, I'd be sure to store upright for a couple of weeks and pour a little more carefully.

Came in a large brown bottle that was capped and corked.
Carmel-red with a tan head that fades to a 1/4 inch level. Smells of grapes, coriander, pepper, and not much like "beer". Taste is rich and malty, strong in alcohol very spicy vegetable-like flavors. Mouthfeel is very full and robust. Good with meat and potatoes, or as an after dinner beer to share with friends.

Medium-brown in color with a tan head. The armoa is yeasty, medicinal, with an alsmost brown sugar like smell. It has a dry medicinal start in the flavor with an herbal, yeasty bite in the finish. It is medium bodied and easy drinking with a drying finish. Not too shabby.

It was a pretty ugly beer, murky brown with red highlights. Off-white creamy head and where the last few drops dripped from the bottle the foam looked like it was sprinkled with cinnamon. It smelled very
brown! It had a big bready malt aroma with some cherries thrown in as well. The beer almost tasted a little sour up front, but those thoughts quickly gave way to the rich toastiness. I was reminded of milk chocolate or chocolate milk towards the end of each sip. There also may have been some hints of diacetyl. Not much hop character at all, but this beer was good as malt driven as it was. It falls in a very broad style (Belgian Dark Strong Ale), and this beer was kinda quirky. Definitely worthwhile buying this one just for a taste of something different.

A bunch of Saint-Monon's appeared at 1st Grand Avenue Liquors, shipped in from the Woodbury store and attractively priced at $2.99 for a magnum...probably considered "old"...
Dark and non-light-transmitting brown. Head is big-bubbled and settles to 1/4 inch in about 60 seconds. Sharp aroma, somewhat Parmesan-like with elements of raisin. Sense of the farm, fresh manure and a malty backspash of a tea steeped out of coriander and thyme. Good body, complex finish of slight hops and more tea. To me, not a wonderful beer, but its big and strays into some interesting territories. One of those beers that makes you want to try new ones for the rest of your life.
