Deft Hand is our dark sour beer aged in oak barrels with orange peel and cinnamon. This dark sour showcases flavors of cacao nibs and dark chocolate with undertones of orange zest and a mild cinnamon spice. We love being able to explore different combinations of ingredients in our sour beers and are excited show how subtle hints of orange and cinnamon brighten the flavors and aromas found in our dark sour.

On draft at the brewery.

Looks a color similar to Tart of Darkness (the measuring stick by which all dark sour beers are measured), was more of a brown head than cherry cola, thin, 1/4" and whisked away shortly thereafter. A little bit aroma of oak, citrus, leather, earth and the usual lactic Rare Barrel notes.

Its a clean acidic sour taste, very similar to ToD. The cinnamon seems to be in the right proportion, like Coke Zero on tap. Is that the right one? The black coke can. Anyways, it gets more noticeable as it warms. Dry oak like tannins from a wine barrel.

I kinda feel like the orange peel and cinnamon were just gimmicks to try and distinguish this beer from ToD, somewhat understandable. But its pretty similar, just different enough.

At the end of the day, who cares, it tastes good, I liked it, but it isn't something I'd ever search or buy bottles of unless they can get it under $20 like ToD is, and furthermore, while good, it isn't world class like ToD.

Oh yeah, the abv is 5.9% if anyone cares, it wasn't listed on Self Advo--,, errr, I mean beeradvocate when I wrote this.

Growler into stemware.

A: Pours a deep cola brown with a finger of dark tan head that bubbled away into a faint collar.
S: Usual notes of their dark sour include musty and earthy barrel, tart acidic red berries, and clean lactic acid. Very light citrus rind quality, maybe blood orange.
T: Follows the nose with flavors of musty and tannic oak and unripe berries, slight citrus, and clean acidity. Citrus has a kiss of sweetness to it, there's a slight hint of doughy yeast as the beer warms, and just the suggestion of cinnamon in the finish. I would not have known it was there unless I was told. Citrus is slightly blood orange. Hint of tea-like flavor.
M: Medium body, medium-full mouthfeel with a very drying finish that has a dose of gritty tannins. Smooth and bubbly yet soft carbonation.
O: I understand the spice is subtle, but I basically get zero cinnamon , and the citrus isn't as prominent as I expected either. Very clean and well executed as a beer, but tastes like a standard dark sour and similar to some of their other offerings. Wished there was more cinnamon.
