Barrel p9t is a golden sour beer from a single oak barrel, selected as "The Rare Barrel" in September 2016 after a 3-day long search by our Ambassadors of Sour, invited beer industry professionals and staff. We're serving part of this beer on draft and using the other part of this extraordinary blend of yeast and bacteria to produce more sour beer to enjoy in the years to come!

10oz tulip on tap at the brewery at release.

A: Served a slightly opaque lemon color with a short lived cap of fuzzy bubbles that quickly disappeared into nothing.
S: Bright golden sour malt backbone with hints of stone fruits and vanilla. Not an especially strong nose. Peppery spice and a touch of acid.
T: Clean, and fairly complex flavors for being so simple. I get notes of both golden fruits and juicy stone fruits mixed with bright lactic acid and slight citrus flavors of lemon and subtle hints of vanilla. Peppery spice throughout and just a touch of sweetness. Tartness lingers after the swallow and I get hints of pear in the aftertaste.
M: Acidity is bright and on the higher side but it's also very clean without any harshness or vinegar. Finish is extremely drying with just a touch of gritty tannins. This beer makes me thirsty.
O: this tastes very much like the house character of their brewery in terms of acidity and funk, so I can see why it was picked. Not the most complex or interesting beer, but the acidity, dryness, and mouthfeel and spot on. Hard to rate this as it's a single barrel golden sour with no adjuncts that is meant to inoculate other barrels, but overall it's a solid golden sour. I remember this was in my tasting flight during the search, and it wasn't my top choice for the winner, but overall it's a great beer, and I'm glad TRB found the barrel in line with what they are looking for.
