Snifter.
A: Pours very dark mahogany with a cap of dark tan foam that quickly fizzed away into a thin fuzzy collar.
S: Earthy and tannic raspberry seed nose with darker notes of dark malt and a hint of higher alcohols.
T: Dark jammy raspberry preserves and earthy bramble patch raspberry flavors up front mixed with notes of caramel and a hint of vanilla. Acidity is bright and has a citrus quality. Hint of current/cranberry and dark malt in the finish. Aftertaste is slightly bourbon-like but mostly black raspberry lingers.
M: Medium-full body, sharp acidity and lingering tartness into the finish. Hint of vinegar, hint of bourbon. No one note dominates. Medium-high carbonation; could be a touch softer to balance the sharp acidity.
O: Can definitely tell this apart from the original, however I was expecting more barrel character. Still a nice raspberry sour, but a fresher bourbon taste would have put more distance between this and the original.
