Had this during SFBW in February 2020 after the dipa festival. Surprised no one had reviewed it, much less added it to the database until now. This could be categorized a hazy ipa I guess. Its a sour ipa, dunno what you do with those here.
Pours a chicken gravy kind of color. Beige fog in the house. 1/3" white head. Sorry, its hella ugly, but makes a nice head, but weighing the ugliness relative to "style". Good aromatics, mostly that pineapple from the Galaxy hop. Motueka is here too.
Taste is a decently made sour ipa, you get elements of both the usual Rare Barrel sourness (strong if not one dimensional) as well as plenty of hop notes giving lots of pineapple dank notes. Drinks easy, alcohol isn't problematic. Getting the slightest Nelson like diesel/gas note from the Motueka. Bitterness is there and rounds out nicely.
I think I would give this another whirl, I've been impressed with Rare Barrel's ipas. They aren't to die for, but they have to be less expensive than their bottled offerings.
