Bottle from the brewery in Berkeley, CA. Pours a semi-clear ruby red with a flash white head that disappears, smell is sour cherry hard candy, maraschino cherry, overripe cherry flesh, vanilla, oak, hints of apple skin and apple cider vinegar, taste is sour cherry flesh, cherry hard candy, apple skins, and oak, hints of cinnamon and leather, feel is light and bright, medium acidity, dry finish. Sweet cherry wine!

2021 Vintage
12.7 ounce bottle.
Vigorous pour yields a fleeting 1/2 inch light pink head over a dark pink body. Nose of cherry and a bit of funk. Taste is well-balanced with cherry, tart cherry and with some oak while finishing nicely dry. Feel is just a tad thin but still good. Overall, a real nice kriek for all to enjoy, especially with a goat's milk Camembert (like I'm having!)
Cheers!

Underwhelmed. Beer seemed flat. I wanted more fruit. Purchased September 2021 for $14.50 at the brewery.

HA HA GET IT CREEK SOUNDS JUST LIKE KRIEK
Anyways, it pours a mostly clear reddish-pink color. Whatever head initially forms fades away in no time flat. The aroma leans closer to a lacto sourness than it does a nuanced brett funk - unfortunate, in this case. However, the cherries compensate. Fleshy, ripe cherry notes pop up, coming across beautifully; they aren't too sweet, nor too cough syrup-like. Oak appears after opening up a little. Meanwhile, the flavor profile follows what the aroma offers closely. A significant tart bite opens things up, with cherries accentuating said tartness. Buttery oak barrels provide a great ending flavor and aftertaste. The Achilles heel is the lack of depth from the sour notes, and the lack of depth in general - while it offers a good bite without being overly aggressive, it comes across like the kind of tartness you'd get from a standard gose, rather than a proper barrel-aged sour. I'd reckon the mouthfeel is the highlight: it's very light, dry, and effervescent, like champagne (a GOOD champagne). It's remarkably easy to drink and refreshing, that's for certain. Overall, everything was nailed except for the complexity. I'd have it again, but I wouldn't seek it out.

2021 Vintage; 9.0% ABV
Appearance: Slightly cloudy red color amber color with violet undertones. The beer has a a medium sized light violet head that slowly faded.
Smell: Moderate barnyard funk and mild tart cherries, and mild hay/grassy aromas.
Taste: Tart cherry notes, moderate citrus note, and moderate grassy/hay notes. I also got the faintest hint of tobacco in the flavor profile. The beer has a fairly dry finish featuring some lingering tart cherry notes.
Mouth-feel: On the light side of medium-bodied with a medium level of carbonation. The beer has a nice sparkling mouthfeel.
Overall: Another good Rare Barrel fruited wild ale. The cherries work very well in the flavor profile and the beer has a hint of initial sweetness that dries out nicely in the finish. I am never disappointed with the Rare Barrel's wild ales.
