650ml bottle poured into a Brew Rebellion pint glass. Reviewed from notes. Consumed on 7.28.2014.
The beer pours a nice amber color, hues of burgundy, orange and red, hazy but with some bubbles rising to the top of the glass where a giant, foamy, 3 finger, off white head rises out of the beer that has great retention and leaves behind a lovely wall of soapy lace. The aroma leaves much to be desired, plenty of caramel, Vienna and other amber malts, a touch of spice and hop bitterness, but there is a decent amount of alcohol heat that stings a little bit. The general blandness is disappointing, not much excitement or balance, just a ton of malt and alcohol. The flavors mirror the nose, although the alcohol is hidden better on the tongue, lots of sweet, rich malt, almost overly so, the bitterness is amped up, but there is little hop flavor, not very harmonious with the sweetness with just a light touch of alcohol at the finish. The mouthfeel is decent, lively, coats the mouth well, has a nice creaminess at times, very full bodied but smooth with an easy finish that has a warming sensation from the alcohol as it goes down.
Verdict: A swing and a miss for me from Brew Rebellion. The style, while not the most exciting, has a lot of successes and this is far from joining those ranks. The malts don't really meld with the hop bitterness and the lack of hop flavor didn't help at all, perhaps a bit ambitious at 10.4%.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, toffee, fruit, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and caramel flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that smells nice but falls pretty flat in all other aspects.
