Look: dark opaque brown pour with a big quick fading head. Once you dig through the half inch of wax I was greeted with a rusty cap. Smell was over whelming banana bread and pie spices. As it warmed the caramelized banana smell was overwhelming. Taste is sweet not cloying. All is lost because this is PHENOLIC bomb it is like chewing on bandaids or eating hot food out of a Styrofoam container that is partially melted. It is pretty terrible. I like this brewery they have fun beers and good ideas, but poor execution if they amped up their QC and nailed the process down I would be tasting good consistant beers. Because this is about the 8th beer I have had from them and they are up and down in quality. Probably better from the tasting room. Giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Pours a murky cola brown. The 1/4 inch khaki head fades to a thin film and ring on top and leaves spotty lace.

The smell is of caramel malt, molasses, maple, cinnamon and nutmeg.

The taste is of roasted dark malt, brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon and nutmeg.

The texture is heavy bodied with low carbonation.

Kind of like a pumpkin beer... without the pumpkin. Big, malty, brown sugar and Autumn spices.

Pours an earthy shade of amber with lots of suds for starters. Quite a fizzy mouthfeel, though creamy rather than soda-like. The aroma is peculiar, musty, and cardboardy.

The first sip is like pumpkin brew, complete with all the array of spices. Intensely sweet at first, but then the Belgian yeast emerges to dry it out for the finish. Same routine, every sip. There is a candied chestnut taste along with prickly pear candy and marmalade dosed with whiskey.

As you exhale there is a pervasive nose of clove and cinnamon. Lots of sediment in the bottle. This is not a beer I need to taste again, but it's something of an experience for the spice-thrill seeker. Silly price, over $22 for the 22 oz bottle. Purchased at Best Damn Beer Shop in San Diego.
