Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing black in the glass, with a thin, light brown head that dissipates to a ring around the glass, with slight lacing.Aroma of mild dark malt, almond, sweet chocolate and cherry; it really does smell like the almond version of Rocky Road ice cream. Flavor starts with sweet dark chocolate malt, milk chocolate, tart cherry and almond, then thins out into bitter tart cherry with chocolate and almond in the background. Finishes tart and bitter.Medium bodied with light creaminess. Well, this one sure starts out right. The aroma is spot on and promises chocolate, nuts and malt. The flavor starts well too, perhaps a little to tart and bright cherry for a stout, but then the cherry and almond extract flavors start to dominate and this finishes a bit thin and starkly sour, bitter cherry. Promising and interesting, but unbalanced. I like the idea and would like to try a more deeply malty version of this same stout. The bottle is wonderful, with nuts incorporated into the wax. Fun, but uneven.
