served on nitro, this is simple but really well made beer, and i was impressed with the quality of the beers here, even though the ones we had were not particularly innovative. sometimes substance over swagger, and that is the case here. nice matte near black look to this one, a little shine in the afternoon light on their canal side patio, and gorgeous nitrogenation producing a creamy inch of light tan foam that lasts and lasts. good roastiness to the nose, not overly bitter or anything, but with a little char to it, some unsweetened baking chocolate, and maybe just a lick of tobacco, not crazy complex but layered a little bit, the yeast has some character too, almost an irish vibe here, and there appear to be some hops as well, maybe a little above average there, but this is rather classic to me. the flavors are wrapped up in a dreamy creamy silky texture, the nitro is on point, and there are likely some oats in here smoothing this out. good depth to the grain base, very little middle malt sweetness, and a hearty but dry low alcohol drinker overall, neat with some persistent hop bitterness with the roast lingering on the back end. nice take on the style here, i look forward to trying more of their beers next time i am back in london, i was impressed with the couple we had here!
