Brewer says this is made with a variety of Crystal malts and hopped with Simcoe, Nugget and Columbus. Color is a dark chestnut reddish brown. Plenty of foam in the Kasteel chalice. A touch of caramel flavor but not much sweetness. Biscuity with dark grainy notes.
This is an odd and astringent brew. The woody flavors and sharp bitter edge make it a little challenging to drink much of. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham, Wash.
