On tap at Beer O'clock the other day (as part of the Ecliptic brewing tap takeover to celebrate the solar eclipse).
The beer pours a blackish brown color with pretty good head retention and decent lacing. On the nose, there's considerable dark chocolate, coupled with some light coffee, light vanilla and light whiskey (I really don't pick up a lot of the barrel aging on the nose or palate). The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, though there's a roasty and light licorice flavor as well. Mouthfeel isn't as full as I was expecting, given the abv. and barrel aging, and seemed to be more along the lines of a medium bodied porter. Alcohol is pretty well integrated into the flavor profile, though you can tell it's up there a bit
A pleasant, but really nothing special, barrel aged imperial porter from Ecliptic. I think it would benefit from additional barrel aging, and a bit more of the chocolate nibs character the beer was brewed with (it's listed as a whiskey barrel aged imperial porter with chocolate nibs).
