Brewed with our friends from Astoria’s Fort George Brewery, this Black Cold IPA is fermented with lager yeast and generously dry hopped with Idaho 7, Nectaron and Citra, bringing citrus and tropical notes. Finishing dry and crisp with a hint of roast, this beer is perfect for a chilly night of exploration in the final frontier.

Look: Pitch black on the pour which kicks off a frothy off-white head that flares up, holds, and slowly settles to a lid, leaving a coating of lacing behind
Aroma: White grapefruit, pine sap and needles, skunky Cannabis, wafts of dark chocolate, diesel, lemons, and some roast
Taste: Citrus and a light tropical fruit note – that I wasn’t detecting on the nose – start it off and quickly followed by pine, roast, and cocoa. Diesel-heavy Cannabis rears its head in the middle and shines before citrus, pine, and roast return to close it out
Mouthfeel: Full, clean, medium-high carbonation, and light to moderate dryness noticeable on the clean finish
Overall: This is tasty stuff. I freaking love CDA/Black IPAs and always have so was pumped to try one from two brewers I respect, plus have been very much into all of the Cold IPAs I’ve tried to was curious how it would turn out and it’s delicious. Well-made with a good balance between hops and dark malt but still is a hop-forward beer that had a great feel and brings unique hop components/aromas/flavors with the Cold IPA dry-hop approach. Definitely worth checking out

Clear dark chestnut brown color with long-lasting beige foam in the Blanche de Chambly goblet. Aroma of orange and pine with roasted grain. Begins with a dark malty flavor. More like a hopped up Porter. This one is quite sweet as well as surprisingly bitter. The flavor is quite nutty but it does have that citrus hop taste that is so familiar. Quite lush and sudsy on the tongue. Rather tiresome after some sipping with the sweetness and the odd roasted taste sparring with the hop overdose. From the 16 oz can with illegible date.
