This beer poured black in color with no head to speak of.
Aroma of roasted malt and fruit.
The taste followed the nose. Chocolate and licorice. Fruity at the end.
Light to medium bodied, very drinkable.

Sampled on tap at the brewery on April 16, 2016.

Very dark brown pour to about black with a modest, fading tan head.

Sweet dark malts on the nose along with a bit of coffee and a little wheat. Hops are low profile.

Medium to a bit better than medium body. Smooth.

Sweet, milky dark roasted malts and a light spice backdrop. Clean finish but little bitterness. Easy to drink.

On draught at the Great Lost Bear.

This is a nice medium bodied stout. Slight smokey finish way on the end. Some sour off the yeast as you settle into it that reminds me of a Belgian bottle-conditioned stout. Solid Gneiss beer

This stout / hefe combo pours a pitch black color with a somewhat large tan head that quickly dissipates. The smell is pretty unique with some caramel sweetness, roasted grains, and possibly some licorice. The flavor is also pretty unique though not as weird as I expected. Roasted grains and caramel figure prominently, but there is also a mild licorice and a subtle fruit tang. I didn’t really notice too much wheat character. The body is fairly heavy. I have never had a beer that was a cross between a stout and a hefe before. It is clearly more influenced by the former, but there are also clear differences that are hard to describe. It’s an interesting beer to be sure, but it doesn’t totally come together.
