Barrel-Aged Sticke Alt - 7.2% ABV - 39 IBU - A robust altbier brewed in the German tradition and taken to the next level by aging in oak barrels innoculated with Brett C. Slightly tart, wonderful notes of malt and oak.

Poured into a stemmed pilsener to replicate a stange yet to somewhat treat like a normal altbier but figured a little "lift" at the bottom because of barrel aging.
The appearance was a nice looking semi-dark brown color with a chill haze running about it at the edges. Milky sticky foamy lace ran around the sides of the glass.
The aroma had a nice sweet to bitter dark chocolate powder flowing over some crisp sweet to sour brett character and then providing a little bit of a crisp little wafer-like edge (guessing that's the altbier coming out).
The flavor was moderately sweet with a quaint bitterness stiffing up the sour-ness brittling out the dark chocolate nibs and/or powder. Aftertaste was sour with the dark chocolate nibs and/or powder coming through in a fashionable sort of manner.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it as the "sour" harshness did take a good hold for a sly acidic feature. But that dark chocolate did make a good effort to try and smooth out the "sour" edges fairly nice.
Overall, altbier? Hmmmmmmm...not quite sure, I wish I found a date on the bottle but don't see any as I believe this is further along in it's aging. Still, for me at least, I really liked it and would probably lean closer to recommending to sour fans than altbier fans. Oh and one more thing, what's nice about this beer is that there are remnants of it reminding me a little bit of Anchorage's Anadromous (that Brett with the dark chocolate notes, that's really nice).

Tasting glass at Old Port Spirits in Portland.
Appearance: Semi-hazy amber.
Aroma: Funky, semi-sour nose.
Taste: Nice, funky, somewhat sour brown ale. Appealing.
Mouthfeel: Medium depth.
Overall: Very nice barrel-aged sticke alt. Essentially an altbier on steroids with some funky bonus.
