Welcome to the biggest IPA ever created by Boatyard Brewing. After tasting the great double IPA’s of Vermont, we decided to bring that Citra goodness to Michigan. We worked diligently for 4 months to create a recipe with pale ale and light caramel malts. We used torrified wheat and brown sugar to round out the malt flavors. We bittered with generous portions Magnum, Centennial and Cascade hops. The finish was made luscious with the addition of Warrior and Citra after chilling the wort. This IPA is sweet and full of citrus flavors. Watch out; it does pack a wallop at 10.3% ABV.

Aside from the slightly hazy orange color, this one wasn't hitting to many marks as a successful DIPA. Nose is watery and earthy, which is shocking once you taste it, as gentle is mighty far from reality here. Taste starts out with a highly bitter carbonation taste that morphs towards banana. Next up is same bitter, but with a metallic edge this time. Seems like there is some spiciness, but it's got to be from the alcohol. Can't really discern any hop character either. At 9.7%, this really is a hot mess.

16oz can. Pours deep orange. Nose reminds me of other dated IPAs. Taste is soapy. Earthy, spicey hops, I really couldnt pick out any hint of citra. It says this is inspired by "vermont" IPAs, but couldnt be farther from heady.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep reddish copper color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of juicy tropical/citrus hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of juicy tropical/citrus hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice DIPA style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy tropical/citrus hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

A - Pours a dark orange with a two-finger off-white creamy head. The head dissapates to a small ring leaving a lots of soapy lacing.
S - Aroma is floral hops and tropical fruit.
T - The flavor starts out sweet with tropical fruits and caramel malts. The sweetness fade into a some piney resinous hops. The finish has a nice lingering grapefruit bitterness.
M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy.
O - This is the first beer I've had from Boatyard and I'm pleasantly surprised. The flavor profile reminds of an East Coast DIPA. Definetly worth checking out.

Completely surprised by this IPA. Had they're other beers on tap and was impressed. This rivals many other DIPA's that I have had and would have to rank it in my top 10 easily. Smooth and floraly. All the right notes. Cheers!
