It has a great look - pitch black body, decent one-finger khaki head. And the aroma absolutely NAILS what the brewery intended. This is fuckin' hazelnut coffee in a glass. There are touches of vanilla cream and dark chocolate, but the additions are dominant. Said additions work extremely well, without coming off in a nasty, artificial manner. The flavor profile doesn't quite follow suit...but to be fair, actual hazelnut coffee doesn't translate well for me going from aroma to palate. It opens very (hazel)nutty, gradually building to a coffee finish. Beneath that lies a subtle background of roasted barley and vanilla cream. There's a very gentle hoppy bite post-swallow. This is very well made, and lacks the chemical qualities that can plague a hazelnut beer. The feel - though thin - is nice and soft, but also dries the back of the palate decently. This goes down easily without being reliant on excess carbonation. What a pleasant surprise: the hazelnut coffee works really well with the dry stout underneath it. I'd even say it's one of my favorite offerings from this brewery.
