Get In, Shut Up, Hold On is a New England Style IPA - typically known for big citrus/tropical fruit hop aroma and flavor, low back end bitterness, and that haze craze opaque density that so many craft beer fans love. Aggressively hopped with Mosaic, Sorachi Ace, and Citra hops, we at B&T did not stop there, but threw a wrench in this beloved New England IPA style; maligning it by adding New York bagels into the mash, along with a whole lot of New York attitude. Therefore, we at B&T are renaming this as: The First, and Original New York IPA.

Popped the top and an odd smell of spice was detected. Looked fairly presentable on the pour, somewhat hazy gold. More of a bubbly, quickly vanishing head. Really didn't know what to make of the flavor. A bit of citrus but an overlay of bitter bagel (carroway seeds?) dominated a fairly unpleasant flavor that I couldn't even put my finger on. Apparently so much New York attitude in this beer that it may have spent time in the back of a hot NYC taxi. Take a Uber instead.

Yeah, I drive a taxi in New York and have done so for well over a decade now. When I saw this on the shelf at Total Wine in Totowa last year, I had to give it a go since it was local, hit close to home and was intriguing because of the addition of bagels into the mash. While this wasn't bad, it wasn't particularly memorable either as this was a basic IPA with a hidden alcoholic presence.
This poured a moderately dark yellow that didn't let a lot of light though as the head was full, but a bit uneven. It never completely settled down as the lacing left behind was in the form of well-defined rings, but only along the bottom half of my pint glass. Lots of Sorachi, bagel, floral notes, and exotic berry in the nose as the taste was quite heavy-handed and chewy. A bit of exotic tropical fruit emerged in the taste, more slickness, bitterness, and hop presence would have been appreciated this felt like an American Pale Ale with a bit more heft to it.
That came in once I finished this off, as I felt a slight buzz kick in as the wheat from the bagel left quite a impression in the aftertaste. More sass and attitude would have made this a true New York beer, and a date on the can would have been appreciated but as it was, this was worth a go once just to keep the label and say that I had something liquid with bagels in it!

Pours a foggy pale straw yellow with half a finger of head that settles to a thin ring with a little lacing. Citrusy with a bready finish. Taste follows nose. Nice.

Notes via stream of consciousness: First off I have to call gimmick on this one for using bagels into the mash. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's added some interesting flavor, but I doubt it. Let me pour it then... it's a cloudy golden beneath a finger's width of white foam but it's already settling. I'm waiting for it but it is holding. OK, on the the aroma then... it's bready so maybe the bagels have done something? I think it's probably more like a Philadelphia pretzel though. Whatever. On to the taste... again, it's malty and bready, and maybe even a little bit honeyish. I like it. There are some hops there but they're second to the malt. That's not to say that they're in the background, just that the malt dominates. That's a little weird for and IPA but OK. Unfortunately I have no idea how old this beer is because they didn't date it, and age usually diminishes hop flavor and increases bready and caramel notes in the malt, not that this is caramelish. As for the hops I'll say citrusy with orange and a twist of lemon/lime, otherwise tropical with a little bit of papaya and mango, and lightly berry-like. The bitterness is moderate but it still finishes dry with just a drop of malt lingering before fading to leave some earthiness, tropical fruits, and a hint of pine lingering. In the mouth it's medium bodied but it appears a little fuller due to all of the extra proteins, and it's smooth across the palate with a fine-bubbled and gently effervescent but moderate carbonation. It's a shame that this beer is so old because I think it would be much better fresh, but hey, play stupid games and win stupid prizes, right?

A: The beer is hazy light pale yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that quickly died down, leaving a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of tangerine citrus are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has some bready hints of bagels towards the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a bit crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA isn't as crisp or bitter compared to other beers in the style and seems more like what you would expect in the smell and the taste of a Sessionable IPA, except it doesn't have the sessionable abv.
