ipa with citra hops and passion fruit added. yet another cloudy hop driven beer from these guys, it sure seems like the east coast trend has penetrated the south, they must have had five of them that all looked like this, really pale, cloudy, washed out, and not overly active. dense and raw. the passion fruit is in front of the hops in the nose, tangy and fresh, a little syrupy maybe, but more or less natural, tart and sweet at the same time. the hops are clearly citra, that soft lemony thing, slightly dank and wet, fresh, and fully complimentary to the passion fruit, which is more tart than sweet in the flavor thankfully. there is more than enough grain character to this, some sweetness for sure, this isnt as dry as it could be, but its the texture that stands out for me. it has a density to it, but its also simple and cerealy and basic, fundamental even, maybe wheat based, nice with the bright springy flavors of the fruit and these citra hops. i think there is great compatibility and balance between the fruit and the hops, they are a naturally perfect match, and they are both bold in the mix. this felt a little heavy for me, the feel didnt match the lighter summery flavors, and the carbonation wasnt quite there. overall though, an excellent single hopped and fruited ipa, not something that would have appealed to me so much on paper as it actually does in the glass. a tasty and unique offering!
