This limited edition Scottish ale clocks in at 6.2 percent ABV. Its solid malt backbone comes from Marris Otter, crystal, chocolate and a dash of smoked cherry wood malts. This is balanced with a variety of UK classic hops to create a smooth drinking Scottish ale.

Amber gold color with medium white cap and lacing.
Aroma of caramely sweet malt and floral/spicy hops.
Medium texture with balancing carbonation.
Taste on entry is malty sweet forward with hops closely behind. With Scotch Ales generally I find a touch of roasted malt bitterness which is absenct here. There is a debth of malt fullness that we associate with roasted malt but without the usual accompaining bitterness. Instead I find a rich caramel/roast quality that I usually associate with a quality Amber Ale. I find the hops more floral than bitter but enough to offset the malt.
Overall I find this one to be pleasing enough for use generally and interesting enough to be interesting.

On-tap at The Flying Saucer, Memphis, TN
A: The beer is clear coppery amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that left a large patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of burnt caramel and peat are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of dark caramel with a bit of toffee and notes of peat in the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a bit lighter and less malty compared to other beers in the style, but these characteristics make it easier to drink.
Serving type: on-tap

At the brewery.
Light clear copper without much head.
Raw malt, sweet smoke, grainy, and no hop character.
Not too sweet, but presents medium caramel, smoke, and light herbal hops. There’s a medium metallic bitterness and a vaguely peaty finish.
Light to medium body with moderate carbonation and a slightly chalky finish.
Scottish Ale is a rare style in the US and in my experience it’s rarely done well. This is a good example made by the smoked cherrywood malt.

They must have taken this brew out of retirement because I'm having a tasty fresh one right now at Pyros Pizza.
Pours to a creamy buff head and light lacing. Color is a deep amber brown. Aroma is malty, spicy, slightly sweet. Flavor is sweet malt and light fruit. Mouthfeel is silky and co2 is pleasingly low. Damn good malty brew.
