A Belgian Brown Ale with fresh mint and aged in oak barrels. Sounds like quite the promising endeavor. Pours amber in color with good clarity. A gentle pour netted half a finger of white head with practically no retention and lacing to speak of.

Mint bouquet is gentle but immediate, a mix of two thirds wintergreen and the rest a sharper spearmint. Backing of bready, biscuit sweet malt and red fruity esters. The oak is not sensed in the aroma except to maybe smooth over the copious mint.

Taste is strikingly different than the aroma, biscuit malt provides a gentle and doughy sweetness with a slight woody edge and grassy/medicinal hops. Totally lacks the mint in the nose and fails to commit fully to the oak aging. Finish is slightly funky with a new shoes and plastic-like dusting.

Medium-light body easy to drink with a smooth slightly dulled carbonation. Alcohol is very well hidden likely smoothed by the oak and mint. Not very bitter or dry. Drinking this one colder is the way to go.

It seems like a trend is starting, to mimic cocktails with beer, in this case a Mint Julep which is mint, fine bourbon, simple syrup on ice. Quite an interesting beer, the mint aroma is quite prevalent but also can be mistaken for toothpaste for the non mint fans. I just wish they had committed to the barrel aging for a longer time or used actual bourbon barrels, it would make it more similar to a true Julep. An interesting offering, quite delightful and well worth a try.
