Sampling a cellar temp 22 oz bottle of this brew. Its been sitting in my cellar since it was picked up at the brewery over a year ago.
the beer pours a clear, deep crimson hue, with light only passing through the edges of my glass. A dense khaki colored head of 1.5 cm foams up and drops to a sturdy edge layer and one large island soon after my pour.
Aroma is a LOT of rum! This is evident right off the pour, I also get a hefty dose of vanilla and a little bit of caramel. Not fusol heat here nor any hop presence to note. Not surprised that any coffee nose has also faded over time, wonder how prevalent it was when this was first bottled?
First sip reveals a smooth silky textured body with very fine and tingly carbonation that rolls across my palate.
Flavor is pretty sweet overall. I get caramel and some brown sugar and a good hit of vanilla and rum notes. No coffee notes coming through here nor any booziness. The hops are also absent on the flavor profile. In general this beer drinks pretty easy, but is a bit of a sipper due to the sweetness of the flavor, which borders on cloying sweet candy.
I enjoy this beer but think that by the end of this 22 oz bottle I will be a little overwhelmed by the sweetness.
