Pours a darker foamy smaller fizzy head with low retention, decent lacing, pitch black color with decent legs and fairly thick
Nose starts quite roasty, dark chocolate, cocoa, a hint smokey, fair baking spice and anise, a touch of interesting fruity notes possibly wine like, caramel and toffee sweetness, molasses, hint of honey, coffee and nougat, light vanilla barrel and hint of whiskey,
Taste brings more roast, not burnt or charred but a touch smokey, roasted malts with a bit of coffee, very dark chocolate, caramel and nougat sweet flavors, fair vanilla probably from the barrels, a bit of oak as well, plenty more baking spices, some anise but also allspice clove like, a bit of bitterness from roast and mild spicy hops, more fruity flavors with some red wine port and a hint of cherry, a bit of whiskey but not much, finishes a bit drier mild sticky with more spicy hop bitterness and roast, a little perfumey but smooth alcohol
Mouth is fuller bod, rich chewy like, fairly thick with lower but sufficient carb, light warming alcohol
Overall not bad, nice base RIS, barrels were decent with nice vanilla and the port was good but not much whiskey, lots of spices from the roast and barrels, but not overpowering, so decent beer

A snifter pout from fresh keg. Looks black, thin tan head of medium-large beads. For such a high abv beer the mouth feel is impressive, abundant oak and bourbon notes. Malt flavors of chocolate and dark roast coffee. Aroma of alcohol, oak, dark malt. Would revisit.

Sampling a cellar temp 22 oz bottle poured into a tasting glass. The beer has a creamy tan head of 1 cm with tight lattice as the foam slowly recedes in my glass.
The aroma is huge with bourbon notes and roasted malt with a decent amount of general booziness as well. No hops showing up here.
The first sip reveals an average body with fine tingly carbonation that rolls across my palate. Each swallow is a little sticky on my mouth.
The flavor is lots of roasted malt and some vanilla and bourbon flavors coming on strong. There is also a decent alcohol warmth on this beer. I Do get some dark fruit, raisins buried in the finish as well. The booze lingers on my palate and my first burp is again rich in bourbon hits. I dont find any real hop presence on the beer as part of the flavor profile either.
This a sipping imperial stout for sure and I enjoy the heavy bourbon notes throughout. I think a little thicker body would really push this to an outstanding imp stout, even so I find it to be very solid and would buy again next season if it comes around again.
