Sampling a cellar temp 22 oz bottle poured into my snifter. The beer was purchased from the brewery a few years ago.
the beer pours a bright clear amber color with some ruby highlights when held up to a light source.
A fizzy yet creamy beige head of 1 cm foams up and fades slowly to a strong edge layer and some wispy islands in the center of my glass.
The aroma on this beer is malty with toffee, caramel and some brown sugar. No real hop presence on the nose and the ABV is hidden here as well.
First sip reveals a medium body with syrupy texture that coats my lips and palate after each sip. The carbonation is extremely fine in size but still packs a bit of tingle with each mouthful.
the flavor is what I expect from the nose and the style. Lots of caramel and toffee, with a good dose of brown sugar too. A sweet malt forward beer, but not cloying as I do find some balancing bitterness on the finish. this could be hops as the flavor is sort of a black tea note to it, but also could be the booze, but without any warming character.
I enjoy this malty brew and find the ABV sneaks up on me a bit by the end of my glass.
Glad I tried this one, wonder if Dana and the crew at Firefly would ever do this one again???
