Copenhagen 21/1 2020. 75 cl corked bottle from Ølhandleren in Give. Serious-looking black label with a flowery logo, some hop flowers and the no nonsense tagline “Extra strong dark beer”. 2017 edition.
Pours opaque, dark brown with a small off-white head. Settles as thin, flimsy, almost transparent layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is intense, very sweet, vineous and boozy. Sweet dark fruits, plums and dark berries, soaked in alcohol, sugary sweet, brown sugar. Port wine and wood. Very light tart notes.
Light carbonation. Thick, viscous, fat, smooth, almost flat texture.
Flavor has a strong and sugary sweetness. Modest bitterness. Aftertaste is strong and sweet with a light tart tang. Lingering. Sweet and boozy finish.
Powerful, heart-warming, Belgian boozer. And they surely do not lie on the label.
