.5litre green/gold aluminum can acquired at a Shop and Go supermarket in Bucharest. Reviewed live. Expectations are average. Best before: 29.05.2015. 11.2 degrees plato.

Served cold and side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated. Served into a generic unbranded bierkrug.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: Two fingers wide. White in colour. Disappointingly thin. Not much creaminess or frothiness at all. No lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Head retention is average - about 2 minutes.

BODY: Clear translucent yellow of average vibrance. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

Appears adequately carbonated. Looks pretty basic. Generally appealing, I guess, and there are no egregious flaws.

AROMA: Clean barley, helles malts, pilsner malts. Has an artificial malt-extracty sweetness I find unbecoming. And it seems slightly syrupy too. I pick up on some Saaz/Noble hop character which adds little aside from a faint grassiness.

Pleasant enough, I guess. Below average in strength.

No overt off-notes are detectable. I don't pick up on any yeast character. Definitely doesn't seem alive.

TASTE: Clean barley, slightly syrupy helles & pils malts with some accompanying sweetness, and some grassy hop character.

No yeast character or alcohol comes through.

It's a painfully simple and boring build. Lacks any intricacy/complexity, subtlety, and nuance whatsoever. Poor (i.e. shallow) depth of flavour. Below average duration and intensity of flavour. Okay amplitude.

I can't say I care for it much; it's rather insipid. But importantly, it isn't watery.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, slightly syrupy, and overly thick for a beer in this style - which keeps it from being refreshing. Overcarbonated, to boot. Evokes a malt extract-y brew, with far too much heft, body, and weight on the palate, lending it a poor overall presence.

Doesn't suit the flavour profile or style well. The syrupy feel is particularly unwelcome.

Not oily, astringent, harsh, gushed, hot, boozy, scratchy, or rough.

OVERALL: It's consistent with Heineken's other international offerings in terms of its low quality. Drinkable but unremarkable. I won't be buying this again, even at Romanian prices. Macro swill. Meh.
