Purchased at the BBNo Brewery in London recently, bottle-conditioned in a 330ml brown bottle; bottled on 21/10/2013, BB 21/10/2014, served lightly chilled in a straight pint glass. Notes: this bottled version is at 5.3%abv. only; the side label specifies the hops used are Nelson Sauvin and Pacific Jade.
A: murky amber in colour, coming with a thin but well-lasting layer of off-white frothy head and moderate level of carbonation.
S: Nelson Sauvin’s distinctive fruitiness goes well with the lightly sweet pale malt base, delivering a little nectar aroma, ripe guava-ish and apricot-like fruitiness. Given a good swirl, the sweet honey-ish notes accentuates, while the exotic fruity elements from the two hop varieties stay pretty much at the same level.
T: very lightly effervescent, the foretaste comes mildly acidic fruit-estery with faintly sweet malts, quickly turning guava-ish aromatic with plenty of tannic bitterness expanding down the sides of the tongue, rendering a pretty chewy and dry finish with a very low level of residual sugar felt on the palate.
M&O: refreshing, medium-minus bodied, a good hop profile goes on top of a light but adequate body of malts, rendering a dry-ish palate with lingering undertones of hop bitterness. Not bad, a bit thin comes the overall flavour profile, but I suspect this is what’s meant to be achieved through this recipe.
