Pours a slightly hazy, yellow colour, similar to a witbier. Smells tart and sour, with hints of lime. Tastes like fresh lime upfront, with Belgian yeast and fruitiness throughout, light, crisp, but could use a bit more carbonation.

On draught at Brewdog Edinburgh:

A: Off-white head of 2 minute retention. Body is dull...an unfiltered murky copper. Seems aptly carbonated.

Not a great look for a saison.

Sm: Line zest. Crackery malts. Not finding any brettanomyces yeast, funkiness, etc. Hopping is mild (to style) with floral and grassy character.

T: Follows the aroma, but the lime is complemented by an afore undetected vague tropical fruit. I dig the zest, but this is rather simple and shallow for a saison, and lacks the intricacy and yeast dominance of a good example of the style.

Mf: Subtle overcarbonation. A bit rough and dry, which emphasizes the crackly crackery malts. Unrefreshing. Medium bodied. Spritzy. Middling execution overall.

O: Brew by numbers indeed. Drinkable but forgettable. A startlingly simple Brew in a style known for complexity and nuance. Can't hold a candle to say Fantome or Dupont, but it's passable.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2014, so it's a bit out of date. Purchased a while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described on the label as a saison brewed with fresh lime zest and hopped with Motueka.

A: Poured into a cervoise. Bottle conditioned. A hazy golden hue with fine sediment and medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam with good retention; this slowly reduces to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing.

S: Aroma of fruity notes with hints of lime, citrus, mild white grape, grass/hay, earthiness, saison yeast, mild grainy malt and faint stewed hops. Rather nice.

T: Tastes of fruity hops and lime with a yeasty character and a subdued bitter finish. Notes of lime, citrus, subtle white grape, grass/hay, earthiness, yeast esters, mild grainy malt and stewed hops. A twinge of cardboard in the background. Well-attenuated, followed by a crisp, hoppy bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and good body. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of earthy saison yeast, mild fruity notes and light grainy malt.

O: Pretty good - the yeast and fruit notes blend nicely. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are a satisfying mix of saison yeast, citrus, fruity hops and mild grain. Good body. Hop character perhaps a tad faded, but goes down a treat all the same. Deserves to be sampled if you come across it.

Poured at the brewery yesterday. Overall a nice saison that was very much to style for me, although saison is one of the broader categories and you get some pretty diverse interpretations. I love moteuka hops, but wasn't sure how they would work in the saison. In this case, the lime probably knocked back some of the tropical tones...which I'm not sure was good or bad in this case. The lime was subtle, but left me feeling the brew didn't mesh together completely. Unfortunately, their classic saison had kicked just prior to my order. My guess is I would have preferred that slightly.

On tap at the St. Andrews Brewing Co. brewpub.
A very slightly hazy golden body topped by a very durable white head that leaving fine patterns of sticky lacing.
Aroma: like most saisons, not appealing.
Flavor: like most saisons, more appealing than the aroma. Still, a bit too much in the way of hints of a barnyard here. Mildly tart and faintly bitter. Probably a bit more hoppy than average for style More lime peel than lime juice.

Bottled December 17, 2013.

Beer is cloudy yellow. Moderately-sized white head.

Nice aroma. The lime is fairly strong, but not overpowering. Zesty, with other citrus scents as well. Some bready yeast notes.

Taste is nice, but at this stage the lime becomes rather overpowering. There are other light fruit flavours as well, but it really feels like a lime-focused drink, which is to its detriment. Yeast is noticeable but it would be nice if it was ramped up a bit.

Medium bodied, strongly carbonated.

Overall, pretty good, but with some issues. I believe this is the first British saison I have had - better than I may have guessed!
