i am used to these beers having second numbers, like 38 in this case would be the category, and a second number would be the iteration of it, but several on their tap wall when we were in only had a first number, such as this one. its a basic dry stout, pepped up with chinook hops, and although simple, one of the technically better beers we had in here, many of which did not live up to our high expectations. this one is on the traditional side, with an obvious irish yeast strain in the mix, a nice roast profile but no sweeter malts, just the deep black barley, very european and old worldy, which i love, and the nitro element is really well done here, creamy and hearty feeling but very dry and fast finishing, the texture is most excellent. there is a lot of bitterness here from the dark grain though, and it lingers a little longer and harder than many of its peers, i dont mind, but it limits drinkability a little bit i think. smooth still though, and balanced with the hops, light pine in there from the chinook, a nice and modern touch to it. quality example of the style with a little extra hops.
