From the can it pours a dark brown color with some clarity. However, it looks pitch black in the glass. A creamy tan head shows good retention.

Nice roasty nose with copious notes of dark chocolate and espresso. Additional aromas of cherry, dark toasted and dark caramel.

Velvety smooth, as the name implies, and mouth coating. Full bodied while opening with malt sweetness that displays notes of toffee, caramel, biscuit and dark toasted malts. Soon, an assertive but smooth bitterness takes over, showing earthy hops flavors and roasted malts. Bittersweet flavors of dark chocolate and espresso throughout. The finish is dry, roasty and smooth. The carbonation is moderate to gentle.

Nice no frills stout. Smooth, drinkable and with some nice roasty bitterness.

Mill House Brewing Company "Velvet Panda Stout"
$4 / half glass at the brewery on 1 September 2018

Notes: Listed at 5.2% ABV with 44 IBUs. Brown-black body beneath a full head of creamy dark tan. Good head retention and very good lacing. Aroma of bittersweet chocolate and roasty coffee. The flavor follows but with more roastiness. Solidly bitter. Medium in body with a median carbonation level. Overall good but quite similar straight through.

The beer pours a nice and voluminous brown head that dissipates at a moderate pace and still leaves enough on the surface to cover it. The beer itself is a good, solid black. It's an unambiguous black.

The smell is good. It has a mainly smokey note with a bit of roast and a very tiny bit of sweets chocolate in the finish.

The taste is good. The main note is fairly roasty with a good mix of medium roasted chocolate malt note and some light smoke in the finish.

The feel is good. It has a thin feel with a light body and quite a bit of biting carbonation to it.

Overall, this is was a pretty solid stout worth getting and very drinkable. It's just that it seems to be worth more getting as a local option rather than making a trip for.

On tap at Swiftwater Brewing in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a creamy looking dark black, with a creamy head that kinda looks nitro-esque, and a good amount of lacing.

This definitely feels a bit thin and watery, but it's got a nice roast character, some mild smoke, and dark chocolate. I wish it was a bit bolder, though.

This has a creamy but disappointingly thin mouthfeel.

This is certainly drinkable and nice, but hardly memorable.

L: Pours black with a finger of tan head.

S: Roasted notes, a little chocolate.

T: Roasted notes a little chocolate and a milky sweetness.

F: Smooth and creamy.

O: Really good. Drinks like a milk stout. It's quite surprising that it isn't.

Poured a firm black hue with a one finger frothy nitro induced off white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured roasted Malta and a touch of lactose.

The taste offered the expected roasted malts with a definite lactose sweetness.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a tasty and quaffable stout. M
