12oz on tap at Eudora brewery served in a snifter. Stated to be 8.5% ABV.
Appearance: Mostly clear, just a bit of haze. Dark amber color, with a very thin white head with some strands of persistent lacing.
Smell: A bit yeasty, and a little herbal - faint aroma.
Taste: Yeast, clove, mild malt sweetness, bitter noble hop finish. The typical Belgian fruity esters are muted - they're just barely present.
Mouthfeel: Good thickness, sticky on the teeth, dry finish.
Overall / Drinkability: Mostly hits the style of a Belgian pale strong ale, but it comes across as a weaker version of Duvel with a bit more yeast and less hop bitterness. Okay, but one is enough per evening. This may be better with food though.
